West Chatham Zoning Meeting TomorrowThe Planning Board welcomes your participation at an in-person Community Forum tomorrow, Saturday, October 28th at 11AM in the large meeting room at the Community Center to discuss the proposed Protective (Zoning) Bylaw amendments to establish the West Chatham Neighborhood Center zoning district. The input from residents, business owners, and others will inform the Planning Board of final amendments to the West Chatham Neighborhood Center district zoning. The Planning Board has held previous public forums and collected input to ensure the proposed changes are in alignment with the desired character for the area. This work builds upon the recommendations received from the Route 28 Visioning Project completed in 2014 and subsequent efforts which studied the Route 28 corridor from the Crowell Road intersection to the Harwich town line with the goal of bringing the Town's Protective Zoning Bylaw into conformance with the Town's Long-Range Comprehensive Plan. The feedback from this community forum and the results of the extensive previous studies and community outreach and engagement will inform a bylaw amendment for the West Chatham Neighborhood Center for Spring 2024 Annual Town Meeting. To best prepare for the Forum, the Planning Board requests those who intend to participate RSVP to Principal Planner Ryan Christenberry at rchristenberry@chatham-ma.gov. All are encouraged to attend.

REMINDERReal Estate and Personal Property tax payments are due in the Treasurer's Office by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1st. Payments can be made on-line and/or established on automatic payment. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Chatham. If your payments are not made by their due dates, interest at the rate of 14% per annum will be charged on the unpaid and overdue amount. Interest is computed on overdue first payments from November 1, 2023 and on overdue second payments from May 1, 2024, to the date payment is made. You will also be required to pay charges and fees incurred for collection if payments are not made when due. Payments are considered made when received by the Collector. To obtain a receipted bill, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope and both copies of the bill with your payment. Thank you! |

Welcome Finance Director Carrie MazerolleWe are very pleased to welcome Carrie Mazerolle as our new Director of Finance, effective November 6, 2023. Ms. Mazerolle has 10 years' experience in Municipal Accounting. She has served as the Duxbury Town Accountant since 2019, where she performs a range of fiscal functions associated with the overall financial performance of the Town including professional, administrative, and technical work in directing operations of the Accounting Department. She supervises and trains employees and enjoys working with other departments. She adheres to internal controls and follows guidance set by the Department of Revenue, ensuring the Town is following generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards board (GASB) requirements and manages the Towns financial software systems. She manages the Town's accounting and financial systems including budgeting (ClearGov digital budget book), maintenance of revenue records, maintenance and control of expenditure and financial records pertaining to Town appropriations, payroll functions, and assists with procurement for the Town. She also implemented several initiatives to improve the efficiency of the Town financial and payroll operations. Prior to joining the Town of Duxbury, Ms. Mazerolle started her municipal accounting career for the Town of Sandwich in 2013 as the Payroll Specialist and in 2016 advanced her career to the Assistant Town Accountant. She worked for the Town of Sandwich until 2019. Ms. Mazerolle holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Studies in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University, where she graduated with high Honors; Cuma Sum Laude. She also has a certificate in Local Government Leadership and Management from Suffolk University, graduating with honors. She is a Certified Governmental Accountant (CGA) and holds a certification in Massachusetts Procurement (MCPPO). She is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the Massachusetts Municipal Auditors and Accountants Association (MMAAA) and most recently serves on the Education Program Committee with the MMAAA. Ms. Mazerolle is passionate about providing high-quality financial services for the Town and about learning and growing as a municipal finance professional. Ms. Mazerolle was born and raised in Massachusetts, growing up in Marion. She moved to Sandwich in 2005 and has been living on Cape Cod with her husband, Michael, and two boys, Ethan and Hunter, for the past 18 years. They have two young dogs; Gia and Beau, which keep them busy. Carrie loves the beach, going hiking and spending time gardening in her free time.

Healey has ordered the United States of America flag and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from Thursday, October 26th until sunset on October 30th.

Sewer Construction UpdateOctober 30th – November 3rd: Paving is expected to be completed on the Old Colony Rail Trail (bike path) between the Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) and Meetinghouse Road on Mayday, October 30th. For public safety reasons, the bike path between the entrance to the WPCF and Meetinghouse Road will be closed to bikers and pedestrians. Loaming of roadway shoulders is expected to commence on Meetinghouse Road, Middle Road, and Morton Road. Site work (fence/guardrail work) will continue at Pump Station #3 (Meetinghouse Road). No work expected in the Crowell Road area this coming week. Work at the Queen Anne Road pump station site (40 Queen Anne Road; south side of Queen Anne Road and Oyster Pond Furlong intersection) will continue on Thursday, November 2nd and Friday, November 3rd.

You Don't Want To Miss This!The Atwood Museum will once again be hosting the Best Bake Sale in History on Tuesday, November 21st from 9 a.m. until sold out. Pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies are available for pre-order through the Museum’s website, while more pies and other goodies like breads and cookies sold in the Museum on the day. The Museum Shop will also be having its annual Historic Hauls Sale! Many items will be marked down. Make sure you stop and look around at the variety of items in stock, such as pottery, beeswax candles, pewter items, pillows, rugs, puzzles, toys, books, and so much more! And finally, the Atwood will be running its Stuff-a-Sleigh campaign, where new or hand-knit winter clothing and accessories for children will be rounded up and donated to the Chatham Angel Fund of the Chatham Children’s Fund. In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town! |
