Blizzard Warning

A Blizzard Warning has been posted for our area.

Conditions will deteriorate overnight. High winds and heavy snow will continue throughout the day on Saturday with coastal flooding possible at times of high tide.

Barnstable County will be opening Regional Shelters at Nauset Regional High School, located at 100 Cable Road in North Eastham, Barnstable Intermediate School located at 895 Falmouth Road in Hyannis, and Falmouth High School at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Regional shelters provide food, water, overnight accommodations, and other special needs if necessary.

A Personal Care Site will open at the Chatham Community Center, 702 Main Street, on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow residents an opportunity to recharge their phones and other electronic devices in the event of power outages. Personal care sites do not provide food or overnight accommodations and are available only during posted hours.

If an emergency should occur that necessitates temporary relocation of members within the community, plans are in place to meet those needs.

The Town of Chatham Emergency Management Team is prepared to respond before, during, and after the storm. Town departments are in constant communication and work together to meet the needs of our community.

If you have general storm related questions or concerns, please call the Emergency Operations Center at 508-945-5191. For emergencies dial 9-1-1!

Bar chart of COVID-19 cases by month

COVID-19 Update

There have been 696 cases of COVID-19 reported in Town since March 2020. There have been 129 cases reported in Town through January 24, 2022 compared to 106 cases reported in all of January 2021.

The Town’s percent positivity as of January 20th for the 14 preceding days is up slightly from last week to 15.6%. This is the 6th lowest on Cape. The Town’s average daily incidence rate for the same period is also up slightly to 85.8.

ARPA Funds Survey

The Barnstable County Commissioners have initiated a public engagement process to gain the perspective of citizens, stakeholders, and the Towns as to how best to allocate the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds received by the County. They have  launched an ARPA survey for public input.

Chatham’s participation in the survey has been low compared to other communities so we strongly encourage citizen participation in the survey.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
