Recycling is fun, easy and a positive habit to get into as part of your daily routine.

We in Chatham are fortunate to have a wonderful Recycling Center that takes a wide variety of items that can be recycled, converted and re-used for additional purposes.

 

ITEMS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED IN CHATHAM, MASSACHUSETTS:

Materials Where to Recycle Not Acceptable
Newspapers / Junk Mail / Magazines / Paper
Mixed Paper Bin NO Twine, plastic bags, tissue paper, or carbon paper
Phone Books
Designated container  
Corrugated Cardboard
Flatten and place in container NO Yellow, waxed or plastic coated, Remove staples and tape
Returnable Glass Bottles
Champ House Table  
Cans, Tin, Aluminum, Steel
Metal Bin NO Food-contaminated foil or aluminum trays
Glass Clear, Green, Brown, and Black
rinse clean, remove lids and neck rings place on table NO windows, mirrors, plate glass, dishes, pyrex, light bulbs and ceramics
*Plastics only #1-7 *Bulk Plastic (chairs, barrels, etc)
Clean, remove rings and caps/bulk items place in roll off as directed NO Unmarked plastics, bags, oil containers, Styrofoam
Scrap Metal Appliances (large/small) Bikes, Light Iron, etc. *Disposal fee applies
Drain fluids (gas/oil) Remove tires and doors NO Automobiles, heating oil tanks
Electrical Items and CRT’s* (televisions and computer monitors) *Disposal fee applies

Leave at mercury shed  
Batteries Rechargeable, NiCad, Lithium Button cells
Leave at mercury shed NO Alkaline batteries (dispose of in trash)
Automotive motor oils, antifreeze, oil filters, waste oil, tires

Original containers only oil & water-base paint, leave in paint shed (May 1- Nov. 1) NO Damaged and unlabeled cans, hazardous material
Paint oil base, latex, thinners & stains

Empty bags on pile, cut logs into 4 foot lengths NO Bags

Textiles / Clothing ALL manner of clothing, linens, towels, shoes, hats, belts, remnants, purses, etc.
